The Statuto Cadorino of 1338 /granted the full ownership of the forests to the native communities. It stated that: the forests of Ampezzo were private and undivided properties of the Ampezzo people and not of foreigners.
No one could cut and fell timber on his own initiative, the woods were managed by the Ampezzo Community that administered wood cutting and timber trade and employed woodcutters.
The income deriving from the sales of timber was used to finance the common needs, like buying wheat and salt or even giving money to family heads.
Timber was used to construct buildings, make furniture and tools and as firewood to heat the homes during long winters. Part of it was sold to merchants and traded to Venice for the shipyards.
