Nothing escapes the passage of time: civilization evolves, technology improves, the structure of cities and towns changes with each passing year. This can be seen in the architecture of buildings, in the rise of new complexes where once there were only woods and meadows; whether this is a good or a bad thing will be seen by future generations.
Cortina d’Ampezzo has also changed over the years; from a small village dedicated to activities related to the land, it discovered tourism and with it everything connected to it – hotels, new homes and structures dedicated to entertainment and leisure. Then came the 1956 Winter Olympic Games which made the location known throughout the world with the consequent increase in popularity and a new upheaval of the urban layout. And so on until today.
Nothing remains fixed, everything is constantly changing.
The photographic exhibition “Visioni d’Ampezzo – How it was and how it is the Queen of the Dolomites”, through a selection of shots that immortalize some aspects related to the location, shows how they have changed over time. Glimpses of landscape, but also elements related to forestry, pastoral or tourist work. To see the changes as a whole, just walk along the roads and paths...
What was there yesterday has been modified or replaced with something different today and who knows if it will remain like this in the future or will change again. It is up to us to preserve its memory.
