Savinio at Milan's Palazzo Reale

28/01/2026

Starting January 28, one of the Mario Rimoldi Museum's most important and sought-after works, Alberto Savinio's L'ile des charmes, will be exhibited at Milan's Palazzo Reale, the centerpiece of the Metafisica/Metafisiche exhibition, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Milan. This event is organized with the scientific collaboration of the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation, the Morandi Museum, and the participation of the Savinio and Carrà Archives.
The project, curated by art historian and critic Vincenzo Trione and produced by Electa, is part of the cultural program of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games and also involves other exhibition venues in the Milanese city, from Piazza Duomo to Brera: the Museo del Novecento, Gallerie d'Italia, and Palazzo Citterio. This journey retraces the stages that led to the founding of the metaphysical movement up to its recent developments.
Starting with the protagonists of Ferrara's historic group—de Chirico first and foremost, followed by Savinio, Carrà, Morandi, and de Pisis—you can also admire the works of artists who, drawing inspiration from the poetics of Metaphysics, created new interpretations not only in art, but also in architecture, theater, literature, film, design, fashion, photography, comics, and music.
Among the works, from more than 150 public and private institutions, stand out the names of artists who shaped the course of art history, many of whose important works are preserved at the Rimoldi Museum. This is thanks, let's not forget, to the enlightened mind of collector Mario Rimoldi, who, after making them part of his journey, donated them to the Regole d'Ampezzo so that valley residents and guests could enjoy them.
As we know, the Museum will be closed to the public during the Olympics, but we hope that at least the tenants of the spaces on the second floor of Ciasa de ra Regoles, usually home to the Permanent Collection, will appreciate the selection of works proposed by the Rimoldi Museum Commission, not so much to adorn the walls, but above all to enhance, at least in part, an artistic and cultural excellence of Cortina d'Ampezzo (Host City 1956-2026). This, among other things, is the aim of the cultural program of the Milan Cortina 2026 Games for the territories hosting them, and, coincidentally, this is what the mayor of the memorable 1956 Winter Olympics, Mario Rimoldi, also hoped for 70 years ago.
